The Rundown

Getting back into the swing of things, the hunger to create music is still flowing although I run into a few bumps every now and then.
One of the biggest challenges I run into as an artist is balance. The spirit man must be fed first, the family, the business, and then the music. Keeping things in perspective is not always easy.
I often encourage myself by repeating, “God didn’t bring me this far to leave me,” or I might say, “The same God who made the heavens and earth lives in me.”
Last week I rocked the mic at three spots, Mighty Fortress, Urban Jerusalem and Arnellia’s. I started with bringing in the New Year at Mighty Fortress and things turned out pretty good considering we didn’t go on until about 2a.m. Although most of the people seemed to be tired they stood to their feet and cheered us on.
The next night was Urban Jerusalem; a full night surrounded with gifted hip hop artists. The Bronx New York rapper Corey Red rocked the mic for about a half hour. The talented Mahogany Jones gave us insight with her flow and testimony. DJ smooth kept the party going on the wheels of steel, and I hit the audience with a few new songs.
The third night I was invited to a private party at Arnellia’s. DJ Ed Skee introduced me to the audience as soon as we walked in. I was surprise to know a few brothers who recognized me from the prison ministry.
When I made it to the stage DJ Ed asks me to sing a song to the birthday girl. To tell the truth I wasn’t expecting that! I went on ahead and sang her the classical [Stevie Wonder-Happy Birthday]. That was the ice breaker, in my mind the lady’s was now at ease with me.
I did my three songs and gave the people my new single. I told them thanks and to be looking for my new album this year.
