Fathers are hardly celebrated due to the bad rap of some bad ones; some fathers are considered bad because they work long hours and barely spend time with their family.

That brings me to my first reason to celebrate fathers; the primary goal of a father is being the provider.  When a real man is unable to provide for his family it drives him crazy; he would rather die than see his family suffer.

I know this may sound a bit extreme, but when a man’s identity is wrapped up in taking care of his family it’s not hard to believe.

The second reason is protection; fathers are wired to protect their family. I can recall back when I was in grade school when a group of boy’s decided they were going to jump me after school. Even though I had eight siblings at the time, I was thinking about making it home to my father.

My third reason is teacher. This is a big one; we never get this until were grown and out of the house do you think about all the lessons your father taught. Don’t do this, don’t do that, and don’t spend all your money in one place, save some for a rainy day, treat people how you won’t to be treated.  At the time all that sounded like a broken record.

A good father is a good teacher. The lesson could be tuff love; you may not understand their method at the time, but at the end you’ll be thankful

The forth reason is comforter.  A child should feel safe around his father a sense of covering, “Hakuna Matata”; no worries. Not to take anything away from the Holy Spirit, our earthly fathers have a duty to bring comfort to the family.

The fifth reason is love.  You should celebrate your father for the fact of pure love, it takes love to care for a child. It takes love to protect, raise and comfort a child. It takes love to teach serve and respect a child, and it take s love to empty yourself to better a child’s future.

Five simple ways to celebrate your father:

1. Take your father to his favorite restaurant.

2. Surprise your father with a friend he hasn’t seen in a while.

3. Have a classic movie night.

4.  Buy him some ice cream and walk the parks.

5. Give him a baby picture of you in a card and tell him God is pleased with him.

What are some ways you celebrate your father?
